National AITP Executive Council Report – David Fish

Several items of interest to our district were discussed recently at the monthly National AITP Executive Council meeting.

First of all, it appears that CompTIA is recognizing that regions, at least in some parts of the country, have served an important purpose in AITP and that those functions are worth building on.  One concept is that CompTIA will sponsor annual events in what they are calling East, Central, and West portions of the country where AITP members can meet to learn leadership skills and grow the organization.  It was mentioned that current regions will not be replaced right away.  Overall, I would conclude that the CompTIA organization is taking a wait and see approach and wants to structure AITP in a manner that is most beneficial to all members.  I further believe that regions should be discussing how they can further benefit AITP and communicate their conclusions to CompTIA.

It was reported that we will soon have a new tool for career growth.  That will be the benefit of accessing Lynda.com as a free benefit of AITP membership.  This is a website that provides numerous IT courses ranging from how to code to how to develop your IT career.

As far as staffing is concerned, we should be seeing one CompTIA staff member assigned to 10 chapters.  This should make communications a whole lot easier for the chapters.

The new official date for the kick-off is July 27.  We have been promised in-depth newsletters as to what new benefits AITP members can expect and more details on how our structure will be organized.  The new AITP.ORG website will be launched at that time as well.

Overall, I would conclude that we will be experiencing some growing pains from the restructure of AITP, but that we will be seeing a lot of improvements now that we are part of CompTIA.
