National AITP Executive Council Update:

The AITP Executive Council met on July 31 in Austin, Texas in conjunction with CompTIA’s ChannelCon. ChannelCon is an annual event where all of the various groups under the CompTIA umbrella come together for a huge networking and education event. Following the kickoff of the new CompTIA AITP on July 27, AITP has now become one of CompTIA’s channels.

At the meeting we confirmed that Regions will continue to exist and will evolve to meet the needs of our new structure. A new Ambassador program was approved, which together with Regions will take on the role of strengthening existing chapters as well as developing new ones to foster the anticipated growth of our organization.

As part of our structuring, chapters will be requested to complete a Chapter Affiliation Agreement. That document will be outlining and describing the relationship between CompTIA and the individual chapters. Part of that agreement calls for chapters to incorporate in the state where they are located. The document is still being reviewed and will be released in the near future.

Our new website has been launched. It appears to be a much more streamlined and better organized website than what we had before. Be advised that it is still a work in progress. There will be a student chapter website that corresponds to the professional chapter website that will be launched in the coming weeks. Chapters are encouraged to review the website and submit suggestions or report defects to

All in all, the meetings and the ChannelCon event demonstrated that CompTIA is committed to growing the AITP organization. I believe that there is a good fit between our organizations and look forward to being part of the new CompTIA AITP.

Greater Wheeling Chapter

The Greater Wheeling Chapter of the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) CompTIA will hold its Wednesday, August 9, 2017 meeting at the White Palace in Wheeling Park, Wheeling WV. The White Palace is located inside Wheeling Park at 1801 National Rd, Wheeling, WV 26003.

Meeting Topic & Speaker

Jeff Morris, MCSE, CNE Surface Technical Specialist – Microsoft Corporation
An 18 year veteran at Microsoft, Jeff helps commercial enterprises digitally transform the way they innovate, how their employees work, and how they engage with customers. For the past 11 years, Jeff has worked in Microsoft’s mobile end client business, including Windows Mobile and Phone, and most recently, the Surface portfolio of Pro, Book, Studio, and Hub. He is an AITP Pittsburgh Chapter member and resides in Allison Park, PA with his wife Pamela and their three children.

Recently at Inspire, Satya Nadella unveiled Microsoft 365, which brings together Office 365, Windows 10 and Enterprise Mobility + Security, delivering a complete, intelligent and secure solution to empower employees. It represents a fundamental shift in how we will design, build and go to market to address our customers’ needs for a modern workplace.

The workplace is transforming—from changing employee expectations, to more diverse and globally distributed teams, to an increasingly complex threat landscape. From these trends, we are seeing a new culture of work emerging. Our customers are telling us they are looking to empower their people with innovative technology to embrace this modern culture of work.

With more than 100 million commercial monthly active users of Office 365, and more than 500 million Windows 10 devices in use, Microsoft is in a unique position to help companies empower their employees, unlocking business growth and innovation.

To address the commercial needs from the largest enterprise to the smallest business, we are introducing Microsoft 365 Enterprise and Microsoft 365 Business.
Attend this meeting and get a better understanding of Microsoft 365, including a hands on experience with the Surface portfolio of devices.

RTP-AITP Chapter Meeting – Digital Transformation

August 10 – Panel Discussion

When the term digital transformation was first mentioned in 2012, its implications were more about keeping up with changes in technology and IT. True digital transformation implies much more – reinvention of business models, application of new technologies to reach customers in real-time and tools to enable organizations to become more agile in meeting customer needs. Our panel in August will bring unique perspectives to this conversation from the worlds of data-driven marketing, Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Agile Project Management Software.
